YSR Housing Scheme: The state and central governments of India introduce housing schemes from time to time to provide affordable houses to the economically weaker sections of society. Andhra Pradesh State Housing Corporation Limited (APSHCL) starts in-house projects in collaboration with the state government in rural and urban areas of Andhra Pradesh. It also manages the completion of various state and centrally-sponsored housing schemes under the Nodal Agency Prabhan Mantra Avas Yojana (PMAY).

APSHCL gives financial and technical assistance to real estate developers to build quality houses for economically disadvantaged citizens. It supplies quality housing construction materials (steel, cement, etc.) and other provisions (water and electricity) at concessional market rates to reduce the construction cost of homes for developers. YSR Housing Scheme

It is a major housing project launched by APSHCL in July 2019 for low-income groups. It is one of the most composed centrally sponsored housing programs launched by the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy Government as part of the election manifesto. Details of the YSR Jagan Housing Scheme

• YSR Housing is a 100% government-funded scheme. The AP government has planned to spend Rs 50,490 crore on the construction of houses for the poverty-stricken citizens of the state.
• The aim of APshCl is to implement the housing scheme in two stages (Phase I and II). The estimated full year of both stages is 2023.
• The target units for each phase are about 1.5 million in 8,798 housing colonies in thirteen districts of AP. After the completion of both phases, about 3 million houses are expected to vote, which has 68.361 acres.
• Phase I – AP Government has given Rs. 28,800 crores in the construction of 15.6 lakh houses in 175 state assembly constituencies.
• Step II – Construction of 15.6 lakh houses launched on June 3, 2021. The estimated outlay is Rs 22,860 crore and will complete in 2023.
• Fund allocation for the development of infrastructure is around Rs 34,000 crore, including pits, free roads, undergraduate drainage, drinking water supply, electricity, security, lighting, hospitals, schools, etc.
• The footage per unit is 340 square feet, and the cost of each house for the developer is Rs. 1.80 lakhs.
• CM wants YSR Housing Scheme Holmes to look ultra-modern. The home will be well designed with thermal technology-driven, energy-skilled, geo-tag and huge bedrooms, living rooms, kitchens, verandas and bathrooms.
• Each house will get bulbs, tube lights, roof fans and a water tank.
• Nearby features include an Anganwadi centre, a primary school, a digital library and a park for each YSR Housing Colony.
• The developers have allocated a part of the land for the construction of multi-speciality centres such as warehouses and cold storage (Ritu Vishwas Kendras) for farmers and established a local market (public market) for people.

Employment under YSR Housing Scheme

The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh has said that the construction of housing colonies will generate significant employment in the state. These colonies will require 30 different categories of labourers like artisans, masons, electricians, plumbers, carpenters and many others. This scheme will also work for a total of 21 crore days, which will increase the per capita income of the state. Gunakalam Colony is one of the largest sites of the YSR Housing Scheme. The site is spread over an area of 397 acres with 12,301 plots. The first plan was launched in December 2020 and provides both, housing facilities and other facilities, which provide to 1.51 lakh beneficiaries. The second part of this scheme will implement in 2023.
