Ujjwala Yojana: The Center’s Modi government is always introducing new initiatives for women. One of these programmes is called the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. The government offers free gas connections under this programme to low-income rural families and women from households with BPL cards. The government recently lowered the cost of residential LPG petrol across the nation by Rs 200 prior to Rakshabandhan. Following this declaration, Union Minister Anurag Thakur declared that, as part of the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana 2.0, the Central Government would give 75 lakh women free LPG connections. Launched on May 1, 2016, Prime Minister Narendra Modi used the phrase “clean fuel, better life” to introduce the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana. The initial cylinder refill is provided to the women free of charge as part of this plan, which also includes a free gas hookup. In addition, the government offers gas stoves at no cost as part of this programme. As of right now, the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana has provided 9 crore 60 lakh connections by the government. Under this initiative, starting on January 1, 2024, women would be able to purchase petrol cylinders for Rs 450. For a period of one year, qualifying families would receive 12 petrol cylinders, which translates to a cost of Rs 450 per cylinder.
Through this programme, low-income families receive free gas hookups in exchange for gas cylinders at discounted prices. in order to give women access to clean fuel for cooking. Under the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, women from low-income households who do not currently have a gas connection may apply.
The PM Ujjwala Scheme, which offers subsidised LPG cylinders to nearly 10 crore impoverished families nationwide, has been extended by the Central Government for a whole year. Up to March 31, 2025, recipients of the PM Ujjwala Yojana will continue to get a subsidy on LPG cylinders. On March 7, the cabinet met under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and this decision was made. The PM Ujjwala Yojana will now run through March 31, 2025. In this manner, 12 LPG cylinders with a subsidy of Rs 300 per cylinder for the following year will be provided to the families covered by this initiative.
