Salient Features of Saubhagya Scheme
The salient characteristics of the Saubhagya Scheme are enumerated below:
- This initiative will use the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) database to identify the households that would be eligible for free power access. On the other hand, under this proposal, unconnected families that are not listed in the SECC database would also be given power connections in exchange for a payment of Rs. 500, which the DISCOMs would collect over the course of ten installments via the electricity bill.
- In order to connect electricity to non-electrified residences, single-point wiring, energy meters (such as pre-paid or smart meters), and service line cables must be provided. The LED lights and related accessories adhere to the building standards and technological specifications.
- Repair and maintenance (R&M) terms for a five-year period will be provided to un-electrified households located in remote and inaccessible areas. These households can have power loads of 200 to 300 Wp (with a battery bank) and a maximum of five LED lights, one DC fan, one DC power plug, etc.
- The Saubhagya award system would also help the various State Power Departments, Power Distribution Companies (DISCOMs), and their staff reach 100% household electrification.
- Every DISCOM, including State Power and Private Sector DISCOMs
- Under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gramme Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY), all DISCOMs, including the Private Sector DISCOMs, State Power Departments, and RE Cooperative Societies, would be eligible for the cash grant. Free power connections are to be given by some qualified organizations to Below Poverty Line (BPL) homes that have already received approval under the DDUGJY.
- The DISCOMs would gather customer data, such as name, Aadhaar card number, contact information, bank account, driver’s license, voter identity, etc., as it became accessible.
