One Nation One Ration Card Scheme, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman declared the launch of the “One Nation One Ration Card” (ONORC) initiative for the poor in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. Migrants to benefit from One Nation One Ration scheme
During the Union Budget 2021, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman declared that the One Nation One Ration program will help migrants in India. According to Sitharaman, migrants can use their ration cards to buy rations from anywhere in the nation.
Nearly 80 crore people countrywide can receive subsidized food and grain thanks to the National Food Security Act of 2013. Out of the 80 crore users throughout all states and Union Territories in the country, only 23 crore ration cards have been distributed.
Previously, a ration card holder could only purchase reduced food and grains from their local PDS (Public Distribution System). As a result, migrants who move to other places in pursuit of work have faced several challenges.
However, by replacing their current ration card with an ONORC, he or she can purchase discounted food from any FPS store in any city or neighborhood.
Additionally, the Financial Minister stated that the people who do not own a state centrally issued PDS card, will get five kilos of grain and one kilogram of “chana” over the course of the following two months.

The One Nation One Ration Card is available to all eligible ration cards or recipients protected by the National Food Security Act (NFSA), 2013.
The procedure of portability of ration cards to One Ration Card
The finance minister claims that both intra- and inter-state transfers of the ration card to the One Ration card are intended to be carried out. Online portals designated for this purpose will be used to facilitate the interstate and intrastate transferability of ration cards.
The Integrated Management of Public Distribution System (IMPDS) will supply the technology for interstate ration card mobility. This would enable migrant workers to purchase food grains from any FPS in the country. The Annavitran portal is the other website that will provide data and information for food delivery utilizing the state’s E-POS system and devices.
The Annavitran site allows migratory workers and their families to access the advantages of the Public Distribution System both within and outside of their district and state. Migrant workers are permitted to buy their quota of food grain under the National Food Security Act. Families of migrant workers may also be able to get food grain at a reduced price from their local ration dealer.
As of May 14, 275 transactions have been completed using the portability feature, which is currently available in 20 states, according to statistics from the IMPDS portal. Reports indicate that the intra-state ration card’s mobility has a much greater transaction volume.
