Objectives

The goal of this plan is to reverse the recent falling trend in the population’s ratio of girls to men. Moreover, the technique seeks to ensure that the girl child will not become a financial burden on her guardians or parents after she marries. Ensuring she receives financial support will help achieve this.

Features and Advantages of the JK Ladli Beti Programme

  • The guardian of the girl, whether natural or legal, must open a recurring deposit account.
  • From the date of a female’s birth or account opening for 14 years, the J&K government will contribute Rs. 1000 every month. UT is going to donate 168,000.
  • J&K Government may only contribute Rs. 1000 per month (RD Account) in Phase I.
  • Phase II (Cumulative Term Deposit account) develops from Phase I (recurring deposit account).
  • No foreclosures or partial draws throughout any stage.
  • The receiver of maturity benefits under the scheme will get them at age 21, 21 years after the first payment, or 85 months after the last installment, whichever comes first. The girl may put the money back into any bank’s card-rate deposit program.
  • The scheme prohibits nominations. The account will be immediately closed if the girl child dies, and the remaining money—along with any interest—will be returned to the J&K and Ladakh Union Territories. If the beneficiary dies before turning 21, the Term Deposit or Recurring Deposit account may be canceled before maturity without incurring pre-payment penalties.
  • Even if the female child whose name appears on the account moves to a different town or city, the account cannot be relocated.
  • A “life certificate of the beneficiary (female child)” attested by a gazetted official or the principal of the school or college where she is enrolled must be submitted by the beneficiary, parent, or guardian every three years and upon reaching adulthood.
  • TDS is not withheld as long as the beneficiary or guardian submits Form 15G/15H annually and has a current PAN, since the plan is meant for low-income households.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Females born on April 1, 2015, or later, are eligible to enroll in the program. Girls who were born before the deadline are not eligible to create an account.
  • Area-specific requirements: Approved parents must obtain all the paperwork that the CDPO has authorized. The following cities may approve documents: Anantnag, Jammu, Budgam, Kathua, Samba, and Pulwama.
  • Joining the initiative is open to parents making less than Rs. 75,000 annually. It therefore gives poor and backward residents more authority.

Documents

  • You must fill out the KYC Standards Application Form.
  • An approval letter for parents or guardians issued by the Child Development Project Officer
