Janani Suraksha Yojana: Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) is a scheme that provides basic financial assistance to poor pregnant women to have a child. The objective of this scheme is to reduce maternal and child mortality by promoting institutional delivery. Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) run under the National Health Mission (NHM). Janani Suraksha Yojana launches by the Hon’ble Prime Minister on 12th April 2005 and implemented in all States and Union Territories with a special focus on Low Performing States (LPS).

The Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) scheme is an upgraded version of the National Maternity Benefit Scheme (NMBS). National Maternity Benefit Scheme (NMBS) has been replaced by Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY). However, the cash benefits of the National Maternity Benefit Scheme have been subsumed in Janani Suraksha Yojana. NMBS came into force in August 1995. In the year 2001-02, the scheme was transferred from the Ministry of Rural Development to the Department of Health and Family Welfare.

जननी सुरक्षा योजना (JSY) एक ऐसी योजना है जो गरीब गर्भवती महिलाओं को बच्चा पैदा करने के लिए बुनियादी वित्तीय सहायता प्रदान करती है। इस योजना का उद्देश्य संस्थागत प्रसव को बढ़ावा देकर मातृ एवं शिशु मृत्यु दर को कम करना है। जननी सुरक्षा योजना (JSY) राष्ट्रीय स्वास्थ्य मिशन (NHM) के तहत चलाई जाती है। जननी सुरक्षा योजना 12 अप्रैल 2005 को माननीय प्रधान मंत्री द्वारा शुरू की गई थी और कम प्रदर्शन करने वाले राज्यों (LPS) पर विशेष ध्यान देने के साथ सभी राज्यों और केंद्र शासित प्रदेशों में लागू की गई थी।

जननी सुरक्षा योजना (JSY) योजना राष्ट्रीय मातृत्व लाभ योजना (NMBS) का उन्नत संस्करण है। राष्ट्रीय मातृत्व लाभ योजना (NMBS) को जननी सुरक्षा योजना (JSY) से बदल दिया गया है। हालांकि, जननी सुरक्षा योजना में राष्ट्रीय मातृत्व लाभ योजना के नकद लाभों को शामिल किया गया है। NMBS अगस्त 1995 में लागू हुआ। वर्ष 2001-02 में, योजना को ग्रामीण विकास मंत्रालय से स्वास्थ्य और परिवार कल्याण विभाग में स्थानांतरित कर दिया गया।

Benefits under Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)

  • JSY scheme helps a poor pregnant woman financially to give birth to a child.
  • JSY scheme promotes institutional delivery to reduce maternal and infant mortality.
  • Eligible pregnant women under the JSY scheme get JSY benefits directly in their bank accounts.
  • A cash facility is also available under the JSY scheme for those who do not have or do not have bank account benefits.
  • The JSY scheme focuses on both Low Performing States (LPS) and High Performing States (HPS).
  • The JSY scheme specifically focuses on the Low Performing States (LPS), where the institutional delivery rate is low.
  • The JSY scheme also provides performance-based incentives to women health volunteers known as ASHA workers.

Role of ASHA under Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)

ASHA workers are a bridge between the government and pregnant women. ASHA workers act as a facilitator and an important component of the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY) strategy. His main roles are as follows:

  • Identify and report pregnant women as beneficiaries of the scheme or facilitate registration for ANC (Ante Natal Check-up).
  • Wherever necessary, assist the pregnant woman in obtaining the necessary certificates.
  • Provide and/or assist women in receiving at least three ANCs including TT injection, and IFA tablet.
  • Identify a functional government health center or an accredited private health institution for referral and delivery,
  • Advocate for institutional delivery.
  • Escorting the beneficiary woman to the predetermined health center and staying with her till the woman is discharged.
  • Arrange for vaccination of the newborn up to 10 weeks of age.
  • Inform ANM/MO about the birth or death of the child or mother.
  • Postnatal check-up and tracking of mother’s health within 7 days of delivery.
  • Advised to start breastfeeding within one hour of delivery and continue it for 3-6 months and promote family planning.
