The Harishchandra Sahayata Yojana was introduced by the Odisha government. The needy can receive financial support under this initiative, up to Rs 3000 in urban regions and Rs 2000 in rural areas, for the cremation of a sick person. The online application software for the initiative has been made available by the Odisha government. The Chief Minister’s Relief Fund has provided a budget of Rs 14 crore for the programme. Ten crore rupees of this total will come directly from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, and the other four crore rupees would come through collectors. This scheme was first implemented in sixteen districts.
The Odisha government has given 1.68 lakh impoverished families financial support of over Rs 32 crore during the past two years. In order to transport deceased people, the Odisha government has also created the Mahaprayana hearse service. 39 vehicles will be given to 29 districts and 3 vehicles to 6 medical institutions as part of this plan in order to transport deceased people.
