The Central Government has decided to offer an incentive of Rs. 2.5 lakhs to each couple in whom one member is a member of the Dalit group to encourage intercaste marriages involving Dalits. This program used to only target couples who made less than Rs. 5 lakhs a year. To promote intercaste weddings among Dalits, the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment has now chosen to expand this program to all couples without income conditions. Couples who marry outside of their caste and one of them is a Dalit may receive a one-time incentive of Rs. 2.5 lakhs under the scheme’s updated terms.
