Training will take up the first six months of these four years, followed by 3.5 years of actual duty. All candidates chosen through this program will be referred to as Agniveers. There are two main reasons why the Indian government started the Agneepath program. First, to keep the military’s age distribution balanced. Currently, army officers are 32 years old on average; if the Agneepath system is implemented, this number will drop dramatically. Nearly half of the army would be made up of young people.
Reducing pensions for the armed forces is the second justification for putting the Agneepath system into place. Approximately 5.25 trillion of the present defence budget is allocated only to salaries and pensions. Just pensions cost 1.2 trillion. Eliminating pension costs is the primary goal.
The Indian Army, Indian Navy, and Indian Air Force will all be recruited under the Agneepath Yojana. All of the Armed Forces have nearly identical eligibility age requirements, educational requirements, and other terms and conditions. For any of their recruitments, interested individuals will need to submit separate applications.
